the market at a free of cost because Linux is under a GNU General Public License so its a free and open source software.
History:-
Linux was first released on 5th October 1991 by Linus Torvalds.It was developed as free OS for PCs.IT is based on UNIX OS which was implemented in 1969 at AT&T's Bell Laboratories.This laboratory has given lots of new technology and research to the IT world.Then Developers worked to integrate GNU component with the Linux kernel and made a fully functional and free OS.
Advantages:
- Cost :- Of course this is a main advantage of Linux over Microsoft or mac that it is a free to use.User are also allowed to develop
- Reliability:-The most of the Linux versions are very reliable as they can often run for years without needing to be reinstalled.
- Choice:-There are hundreds of the Linux versions are available in the market so you can choose as per your need.This is the best advantage as per my thinking.
- Free Software:-There are many choices when it comes to doing any specific task.Regular users and programmer contribute applications all the time so the the software becomes best in its work.
- Hardware:-It can be run on any modern PC,it can be used as a firewall or a file server or a backup server.
- Support:-It is hard to find masters with all the Linux distro but there are lots of amount of information available online and books are also there for you
Disadvantages:
- Ease of access:-To become familiar with Linux OS needs some patience and more learning.It is difficult to use when you are accessing it first time.
- Compatibility:-Though Developers and contribute do their best to keep Linux kernel up to date,it is incompatible with the brand new hardware.
- Alternate:-There are many software packages available but sometimes it is hard to find alternate program for your work to popular windows program.
So these disadvantages are nearly negligible due to their awesome features,work and advantages.
